The Milan Girls Varsity Softball Team came away with two strong wins this past week against St. Mary Catholic Central and Jefferson.
Playing at home on April 13, the Big Reds beat SMCC by a score of 13-7.
Against Catholic Central, Milan Coach Micah Higa said “it was a competitive, back-and-forth game where we had to respond multiple times.”
Higa said Charleigh Meggison led the way with four RBIs on two hits, including a two-run home run and a go-ahead double.

“We came out aggressive early, but St. Mary battled back to tie the game in both the fourth and fifth innings,” Higa said. “Each time, we answered—first with Meggison’s RBI double, then with Mya Vance’s RBI single to take the lead for good.”
Offensively, the Big Reds finished with 15 hits, with Vance and Ginny Heikka each collecting three. Milan also got a complete game effort in the circle from pitcher Kendyll Fell.
On April 17, the Big Reds again played at home, but this time against Jefferson.
Higa said the Jefferson game had a different feel, as Milan was able to take control early and maintain it throughout a 13–1 win.
Alexis Vance led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 day. Higa said the game broke open with a nine-run third inning fueled by timely hitting, patience at the plate, and capitalizing on errors. Fell again set the tone in the circle with four no-hit innings and five strikeouts.
“We also applied pressure on the bases with eight steals and played clean defense, highlighted by Reese Knox’s steady play in the field and Allie Hertler handling five chances behind the plate,” Higa said.
Higa said they played two strong games this week with each game showing a different side of the team.
“Overall, it was a good week showing both our ability to compete in tight games and execute when we get ahead early,” said Higa.
