The Chelsea Area Historical Society will host a presentation on the history of Carhartt at 7 p.m. on May 4 at the Chelsea Depot.

Carhartt historian Dave Moore will share stories from the company’s origins in 1889, when founder Hamilton Carhartt began producing durable clothing for railroad workers and laborers, to its evolution into a nationally recognized, family-owned brand headquartered in Dearborn.

Moore, who established and manages the company’s archive program, will discuss how Carhartt preserves its history and uses it to inform product design and connect employees to the company’s roots. The event is open to the public, with free admission for members and $10 for non-members.

Moore led the development of Carhartt’s archival program and has built it into a key part of the company’s operations, supporting everything from design to employee engagement. He also helped implement the company’s first digital asset management system in 2019 and remains active in national and international archival organizations, presenting frequently on business archives and history.
