This June, local Chelsea High School (CHS) artists will take center stage as part of “A Seat at the Table,” a community-wide exhibition hosted within the traveling Pitch Haus residency, arriving in Chelsea June 13–27.
Led by artist Eli Zemper, founder of Curiouser Clay, the project includes a special collaboration with Ceramics 1 and 2 students in Claire Popovich’s classes at CHS. Throughout April, students will work directly with Zemper, contributing ceramic pieces that will be included in the final exhibition. Their work will be presented alongside pieces created by community members, highlighting a shared creative dialogue across generations.
“A Seat at the Table” represents the culmination of four months of hands-on workshops exploring natural dyed textiles, hand-building and printing on clay, glazing ceramics, and printmaking. The inclusion of student work brings an important educational and community-centered dimension to the exhibition, offering young artists the opportunity to engage in a professional, public-facing art experience.
The exhibition will be housed in Pitch Haus, a mobile shipping container transformed into an art space, located in the Chelsea State Bank parking lot on US-12. Over the course of two weeks, the site will serve as a hub for creativity, featuring both the exhibition and a series of interactive workshops and events for all ages.
“We’re creating a space where students can see their work valued as part of a larger creative community,” Zemper said. “This collaboration invites them into a broader conversation about art, connection, and what it means to have a seat at the table.”
In addition to viewing the exhibition, community members can participate in hands-on programming throughout the residency, including clay workshops, natural dye sessions, and family-friendly art activities. These events are designed to extend the themes of the exhibition—connection, storytelling, and shared creative practice—into an accessible public setting.
The “A Seat at the Table” exhibition will be open to the public during all scheduled Pitch Haus events from June 13–27.
