Dexter-Chelsea Rd Projects Overlap One Week

Downtown Dexter roundabout construction expected to be finished Mid-September at earliest

A series of road projects, seasonal events, and public works activities are scheduled across the Dexter area in late April and early May, with one week in particular bringing overlapping road closures and community activity.

Dexter-Chelsea Road Closure Underway

Dexter-Chelsea Road closed Monday, April 27, for road work in Lima Township.

The closure affects the stretch between Freer Road and Dancer Road as crews from the Washtenaw County Road Commission conduct milling and asphalt resurfacing.

The project is expected to take about two weeks, with completion dependent on weather conditions. The road is closed to through traffic, though local access is being maintained on both sides of Fletcher Road. The bridge just west of Fletcher Road is closed to all traffic during construction.

Island Lake Road Closure Begins May 4

A second major project begins the following week.

Starting Monday, May 4, Island Lake Road will close between Dexter-Chelsea Road and Dexter-Pinckney Road in Scio and Webster townships.

The closure will allow for construction of a roundabout at Dexter-Chelsea Road and intersection improvements at Dexter-Pinckney Road. The project is expected to continue through mid-September, though timing may shift due to weather.

During the closure, through traffic will not be permitted. Businesses within the closure area will remain open with limited access. A&W will be accessible only from Dexter-Chelsea Road, while the Westridge subdivision will be accessible only from Dexter-Pinckney Road.

One Week of Overlapping Closures

The Dexter-Chelsea Road resurfacing project and the Island Lake Road construction overlap for approximately one week beginning May 4.

That overlap may create additional traffic challenges for drivers navigating between Dexter, Chelsea, and surrounding townships, particularly near the Dexter-Chelsea Road corridor.

Officials encourage residents to plan ahead for traffic disruptions.
