EMU, Ann Arbor Public Schools Launch Direct Admission Partnership

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) and Ann Arbor Public Schools have launched a new direct-admission partnership that will guarantee admission to EMU for eligible graduating seniors while removing common barriers to the college application process.

Senior students from Ann Arbor Public Schools with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher who are on track to graduate will receive a direct admission invitation to Eastern. Students who opt into the program will be automatically admitted, have their undergraduate application fee waived and be considered for merit-based scholarships. The initiative creates a clear pathway from the county’s largest school district to EMU and is designed to help more students recognize that college is within reach.

“Eastern Michigan University is proud to stand with Ann Arbor Public Schools in opening wider doors to higher education,” said EMU President Brendan Kelly. “This partnership reflects our belief that talent is everywhere, and opportunity should be too. By simplifying the path to college, we’re sending a clear message to students across Ann Arbor: your future is within reach, and EMU is ready to walk alongside you as you take your next steps.”

Eligible students will be identified by Ann Arbor Public Schools and invited to complete a brief opt-in form that serves as their application to the university. Once submitted, students will receive confirmation of admission, along with the next steps for enrollment, including the submission of official transcripts.

“The Ann Arbor Public Schools is excited to enter into this new partnership with Eastern Michigan University, which will guarantee admission to EMU for eligible graduating seniors,” said Superintendent Jazz Parks. “We know the college application process can be challenging for students and families, and we are happy to partner with EMU to offer a simple, straightforward way for our graduates to continue with their education.”

In addition to the direct admission offer, EMU will provide support for students and families through information sessions, guidance from admissions advisors and collaboration with high school counselors throughout the district.

“As a regional public university, EMU is committed to serving our neighboring communities and expanding opportunity for students across Ann Arbor Public Schools,” said Katie Condon, vice president of enrollment management at Eastern Michigan University. “Direct admission sends a message to students and families that higher education is within reach and that EMU is ready to support their success.”

“This Direct Admission partnership with Ann Arbor Public Schools proves Eastern’s commitment to the innovation of college access, opportunities and student success,” said Dr. LaJoyce Brown, director of admissions at Eastern Michigan University. “Through this partnership, we are creating a clear pathway to EMU by collaborating with neighboring educators to support students as they begin their postsecondary journey as Eagles.”

Leaders from both institutions will meet regularly to monitor the program’s progress and continue strengthening the pathway for future students.
