Dexter Community Orchestra at 20 – a Celebration of Sound

May 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free

The Dexter Community Orchestra concludes its 20th anniversary season with a performance of one of the most powerful symphonies of the orchestral repertoire – Camille Saint-Saens’ epic Organ Symphony. The concert takes place 7 pm, Saturday May 9 at Dexter High School under the baton of Music Director David Schultz.

The concert will also feature this year’s winner of the DCO’s Youth Artist Competition, flutist Eva Fazekas, who will play Charles T. Griffes’ “Poem for Flute and Orchestra”. Eva is a senior at Ann Arbor’s Huron High School.

As an added treat, the DCO will honor former music director Anthony Elliott, who led the orchestra from 2012 to 2018. Mr. Elliott is well-known and well-loved by the Michigan musical community and will be awarded the position of Director Emeritus of the DCO. He will return to the podium to conduct an arrangement of an aria from George Frederick Handel’s opera “Xerxes”.

The program will open with Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis”, a sumptuous, elegant piece featuring the DCO’s string section.

This commemorative concert promises to be a festive, joyous affair, so plan to attend! Seating is first-come first-served, so arrive early to get a choice seat. As always, admission is free, no ticket required. Donations in support of the orchestra are gratefully accepted.

And remember, the concert takes place SATURDAY evening at 7 pm, rather than at the usual time Sunday afternoon.
