SUMMARY:Beacon Arts Trio – Merged | Submerged – Poetry and Sound Converge in the Forest\, Harlem\, and the Depths of the Sea
DESCRIPTION:Embark on a vibrant and imaginative musical adventure with Emily Olson (flute)\, Lorrie Gunn (violin/viola)\, and Maurice Draughn (harp). This trio brings stories to life through sound—inviting you to wander through poetic landscapes\, celebrate cultural rebirth\, and feel the full sweep of human expression. The journey begins with Jacques Ibert’s Interludes\, a contemplative suite that sets the tone with shimmering introspection. Maurice Draughn’s own Harlem Suite offers a solo harp homage to the Harlem Renaissance—its rhythms and textures echoing the vibrancy of a pivotal cultural era. Mel Bonis’ Scènes de la forêt invites listeners into the heart of the forest\, where each movement evokes the mystery and vitality of woodland life. The program culminates with Miguel del Águila’s Submerged\, a rhythmically charged and emotionally immersive work that plunges into the ocean’s depths. Together\, these and additional pieces form a concert experience that is at once intimate\, imaginative\, and powerfully expressive. \nEmily Olson\, flute\nLorrie Gunn\, violin/viola\nMaurice Draughn\, harp \nProgram includes: \nJacques Ibert – Deux Interludes\nMaurice Draughn – Harlem Suite\nJames Marson – Suite for Flute and Harp\nMel Bonis – Scènes de la forêt\nClaude Debussy – Syrinx\nMiguel del Aguila – Submerged

SUMMARY:Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival-in-Residence #2 Modulating Moods From Mozart’s clarity to Dvořák’s dance
DESCRIPTION:From Mozart’s luminous elegance to Dvořák’s folk-inspired vitality\, the 2nd installment of Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival’s residency at Kerrytown Concert House this season traces a rich spectrum of musical expression. Clarinetist David Shifrin joins the Candide Quartet for Mozart’s beloved Clarinet Quintet in A major\, a cornerstone of the chamber repertoire whose graceful lyricism and warmth highlight the instrument’s singing voice. Shifrin then takes center stage in Stravinsky’s Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet\, a strikingly modern work that explores the clarinet’s color\, character\, and virtuosity. Closing the evening\, Trio Eris performs Dvořák’s exuberant “Dumky” Piano Trio\, a sequence of contrasting movements that move freely between introspection and spirited dance. \nTogether\, these works create an intimate and expressive program showcasing lyrical clarinet lines\, striking solo moments\, and deeply emotional chamber textures in KCH’s salon setting. \n  \nDavid Shifrin\, clarinet\nCandide Quartet\, Shouse ensemble\nTrio Eris\, Shouse ensemble \n  \nProgram:  \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Clarinet Quintet in A major\, K. 581\n(1756-1791)\nAllegro\nLarghetto\nMenuetto\nAllegretto con variazioni\nShifrin\, Candide Quartet \nIgor Stravinsky: Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet\n(1882-1971)\nShifrin \nAntonín Dvořák: Piano Trio No. 4 in E minor\, Op. 90 “Dumky”\n(1841-1904)\nLento maestoso – Allegro vivace – Allegro molto\nPoco adagio – Vivace non troppo\nAndante – Vivace non troppo\nAndante moderato – Allegretto scherzando – Allegro\nAllegro\nLento maestoso – Vivace\nTrio Eris
