SUMMARY:At The Wake: book launch at Fine Print (author Michael David MacBride)
DESCRIPTION:Free! Author reading\, signing\, and answering questions. Refreshments. Other surprises? More to come. \n“A powerful and nuanced family saga.” ~~ Kirkus Reviews\n“A raw and unapologetic examination of the generational damage suffered by the family of a convicted killer.” ~~ Rob Jung\, author of The Reaper\, an Amazon best-seller. \nAt the Wake is an unflinching exploration of family\, legacy\, and the long shadow cast by one man’s life. Achiel Van Slyck was a man of contradictions-a war hero who took pride in his service\, but also a vindictive neighbor\, a volatile father\, and a man whose actions shattered lives\, including his own. When he murdered Clifford Ellis in 1975\, the crime sent shockwaves through his family and community\, leaving scars and secrets that would ripple across generations.

When he murdered Clifford Ellis in 1975\, the crime sent shockwaves through his family and community\, leaving scars and secrets that would ripple across generations. \nThrough a kaleidoscope of perspectives-his wife\, children\, siblings\, and even his victims-Achiel’s story unfolds in fragments\, revealing a complex portrait of a man shaped by trauma\, war\, and a simmering rage. As each family member recounts their experiences\, they grapple with the truths of their shared past\, the weight of Achiel’s legacy\, and their own struggles to reconcile love\, anger\, and loss. \nSet against the backdrop of small-town dynamics and spanning decades\, At the Wake delves into the messy\, often painful process of confronting one’s history. It’s a tale of resilience\, reflection\, and the ways in which families try to move forward while bearing the imprint of the past. Michael David MacBride weaves a haunting and evocative narrative that challenges readers to ask: can we ever truly escape the shadows of our ancestors?

SUMMARY:Families\, Friends and Politics
DESCRIPTION:Braver Angels Washtenaw to Host Event in Saline \nEllen Abramson\, Co-Founder\, Braver Angels Alliance of Washtenaw County \nMany of us have experienced strained relationships with family members or friends due to political differences.  Some of us have even lost relationships.  Please join the Braver Angels Alliance of Washtenaw County for “Families\, Friends and Politics” from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on September 10\, 2025\, at Stony Lake Brewing Company\, 447 E. Michigan Avenue in Saline. \nThe program will provide an opportunity to share these experiences.  What impact have we and our families experienced?  What ways have we found to address the challenges presented by political differences among family members and friends? \nBraver Angels is the largest grass roots\, cross partisan organization in the country working to decrease fear and hate between ordinary people with differing political opinions. The goal is to disagree while listening to each other’s viewpoints with respect and curiosity. We are trying to understand the experiences\, information sources\, and values that underlie each other’s positions. We believe that disagreement is essential in a democracy and that demeaning and demonizing those who vote differently from us undermines civic life.  For more information\, please go to https://washtenaw.braverangels.org/

SUMMARY:Natural Dye Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the beauty and abundance of nature while using the gifts it provides. Bundle dyeing is the perfect way to start your dye journey! It is a simple form of eco-printing where you roll flowers and other natural dyestuffs within a textile\, tie it and place it above hot steam. The naturally-occurring pigments within the plants will bind to the textile and create gorgeous dyes and patterns. It is a creative and fascinating way to appreciate the beauty\, color and also\, the impermanence of flora. We will talk about what dyestuffs work the best\, how to preserve the color as long as possible\, and artistic approaches such as composition and technique. While our bandanas are steaming\, we will have time for questions and answers regarding natural dyeing or\, you can take a break and shop the store and chat it up with owners Tobie and Joe. Come with curiosity\, wonder and a good attitude and get ready to learn something new!  \nRegistration is required. Check out the link for more information and to secure your spot.
