Milan’s Boys Varsity Golf Team opened the season at the Splitter invitational, which was hosted by Lincoln High School on April 8, at the Pine View Golf course.

The Sun Times News connected with the Milan coaches to ask about the Invitational, which is a scrimmage matchup.

Things went well, they said, especially for Milan’s first match/tournament and especially considering the limited amount of practice they’ve been able to have this season so far.  The top guys did very well and the younger guys got some great experience.

Milan had eight players with a combined score of 373. The top pair (Brody Cicotte and Sam Jenness) shot 82. As a team they finished 12th out of 16.

Milan’s coaches said overall it was just a great experience and that Coach Crowner of Lincoln is a class act and runs a great tournament.

“We are thankful to have been invited and hope to play again next year,” Milan’s coaches said.

Going into this season, Milan’s projected top players are:

Seniors: Keagan Dunn

Juniors: Brody Cicotte, Griffin Sanders, Landon Faro

Sophomores: Tobin Bartholomay

Freshman: Sam Jenness

Cicotte and Jenness are helping to lead the team with the other golfers coming on strong.

Looking ahead, Milan’s coaches said, “We are a young team but have lots of potential. We should be competitive this year as we continue to develop the younger players. There will be some battles week in and week out this year for Varsity spots in matches and tournaments.”
