The Buddy Meet has become a great time for a group of friends to share their common passion.
The meet was held on April 20, in Milan. The Sun Times News connected with one of the event organizers, Nancy Gill, to learn more.
“The simple idea behind the meet three years ago was inclusion; making friendships with people who might be different than you in an encouraging environment,” Gill said. “We all share the same passion: swim.”

Gill said while that was the purpose behind the meet, “we used the event to fundraise for team suits and towels for our Special Olympics team as well.”
As a side note, she said their Chuck-a-Duck fundraiser has been a huge hit every year; selling out 400 ducks in about 30 minutes this year.

The meet was hosted by the Milan Swim Club and Special Olympics Michigan Washtenaw County Area 20. Other areas participating include those from Monroe, Lenawee and Hillsdale counties.
The title event sponsor was The Knights of Columbus this year. Gill said it was their first year having an event sponsor. She said the community sponsors are really important.

“Milan and the surrounding areas are always so generous,” Gill said.
