The Saline track and field teams swept a pair of SEC Red meet last week with wins over Bedford and Huron.
The boys defeated Bedford 79-58 and Huron 80-57.
Saline dominated the distance events, with Jacob Szalay winning the 800 meters (1:59.03) and finishing second in the 1600 (4:33.77). Brennan Larusso captured the 1600 title (4:28.21), while Ryan McGillicuddy placed third in the 800 (2:04.00). In the 3200, Will Sollenberger led the way with a third-place finish (10:31.88).
In the sprints, Jack Walden placed third in the 200 (22.64), while Cruz Hanson added a third-place finish in the 400 (50.05).
The hurdles were a strong point for the Hornets, with Chanon Palmer sweeping both events by winning the 110 hurdles (14.36) and 300 hurdles (38.78).
Saline’s relays also turned in top-three efforts. The 4×200 relay team of Walden, Youssef Jarouche, Hanson, and Nick Grunas took first (1:31.40), while the 4×800 relay of Szalay, McGillicuddy, Wes Rogan, and Larusso also finished first (8:11.25). The 4×100 relay placed second (45.05), and the 4×400 relay finished third (3:48.08).
In the field events, Alexander Stockton won the high jump (5-10) and Lennon Cohoon captured the long jump title (21-5). Hanson added a third-place finish in the high jump.
The girls turned in a dominant performance rolling past Ann Arbor Huron (96-40) and Temperance Bedford (104-33) with a strong collection of top three finishes.
The Hornets were led in the sprints by Charlotte Warren, who won the 100 meters in 12.59, while Addisen Freeburn added a third-place finish at 12.77.
Saline controlled the middle-distance races, sweeping the top two spots in the 800 meters with Savannah Staton winning in 2:21.01 and Katarina Munson second in 2:22.66. The Hornets also went one-two in the 1600, led by Lillian Schlack’s win in 5:18.43 and Sophie Roth’s runner-up finish in 5:40.97. In the 3200, Hannah Gritzmaker placed third.
In the hurdles, Shyla Smith finished second in the 100 hurdles (17.94), while Adelynn Turck claimed the 300 hurdles title in 51.20.
Saline’s relay teams were dominant across the board. The 4×100 relay of Warren, Freeburn, Amelia Lorch, and Aviana Stackhouse took first, as did the 4×200 team of Warren, Lola Lange, Mahalia Staton, and Freeburn. The 4×400 relay team of Lauren Tomaszewski, Ruby Giddings, Payton Aagesen, and Caroline Cotner also finished first, while the 4×800 relay of Turck, Munson, Staton, and Schlack placed first.
In the field events, Nova Platzer won the shot put, while Isabelle Belaire placed second in the discus and Ella Orloff third. The Hornets swept the high jump with Megan Sweet winning and Jenna Sweet second, and Melissa Leventhal captured first in the pole vault.
Saline also went one-two in the long jump with Amelia Lorch taking first and Mahalia Staton finishing second.
The Hornets competed in the April Showers Invitational in Dexter April a8 and had numerous medal winners with top six finishes.
Chanon Palmer led the way for Saline with a pair of first-place finishes. Palmer won the 110 hurdles in 14.65 and later claimed the 300 hurdles in 39.91. Gabe Warren also reached the medal stand with a sixth-place finish in the 100 dash in a personal-best 11.62.
In the distance events, Carlos Basulto picked up a medal with a fifth-place finish in the 1600 in 4:47.47, while Ryan McGillicuddy just missed the podium with a personal-best time of 2:01.92 to place seventh in the 800.
Saline also earned a medal in the relays, with the 4×200 team of Cruz Hanson, Jack Walden, Palmer, and Blair Jones finishing fifth in 1:32.75.
In the field events, Alexander Stockton had a big day with a runner-up finish in the high jump after clearing 6-feet even and a fourth-place finish in the long jump at 18-6.75. Youssef Jarouche added a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 18-9, while Anthony Beaulieu placed fifth in the pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 10-9.
The girls had a strong showing in Dexter as well.

The Hornets also claimed another win in the 4×100 relay, where Charlotte Warren, Addisen Freeburn, Amelia Lorch, and Janaye Sifuna crossed first in 51.66.
Saline added several more medal-winning performances. Savannah Staton earned a third-place finish in the 3200 with a personal-best 10:42.40, Caroline Cotner was third in the freshman 1600 (5:50.40), and Megan Sweet tied for third in the high jump (4-6). Amelia Lorch finished second in the long jump (14-7), while Mahalia Staton took third (14-6 1/2).
Other Hornets also reached the podium with top-six finishes. Adelynn Turck placed fourth in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best 50.57, and Charlotte Warren earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 (27.39).
