The Scio Township Board at its April 28 meeting approved its 2026 road agreement with the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) for the local road improvement projects planned for in the coming months.

The estimated total for the projects comes out to $566,000 with Scio devoting an estimated $299,472 and the WCRC local matching funds coming out to $266,528.

The final plan is a bit different than what was originally planned with Scio putting in some additional work. Scio Township Supervisor Jillian Kerry explained the additions in her report to the board.

Kerry said the Board of Trustees approved the proposed 2026-27 Capital Improvement Plan and Budget for the Road Advisory Committee (RAC), totaling $495,198. This amount included a $266,528 matching grant from the WCRC.

“After accounting for the grant, the Township’s proposed expenditure of $233,670 fell short of the minimum required to fully utilize the available matching funds,” Kerry said. “In coordination with WCRC, we compared their recommended improvement list with RAC’s proposed projects. While the estimates were close, additional projects were necessary to meet the threshold for the full grant.”

Kerry said with WCRC’s agreement, the RAC elected to include Roseland Drive, “which—based on available records—has not previously undergone improvements. This adjustment brings the Township’s total proposed contribution to $299,472. Roseland Drive also connects to Craig Road East, another roadway scheduled for improvements this season.”

The RAC requested the Township Board approve an additional $65,802 from the General Fund.

“This funding will enable the Township to meet the requirements for the full matching grant, support the jointly proposed list of road improvements developed with the Washtenaw County Road Commission, and address the urgent improvement needs on Roseland Drive,” Kerry said.
