Residents, landowners and policymakers in southwest Washtenaw County are invited to an April 9 program focused on land protection, land management and conservation resources.
“Southwest Washtenaw: Protecting Your Land, Preserving Our Future” is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 19980 W. Pleasant Lake Road in Manchester.
Matt DeJonge of the Washtenaw County Conservation District said the event is part of an ongoing countywide series that has been brought to local communities since 2022.
“It’s grown in importance with the aggressive pace of land-use changes, which has caught many communities and organizations by surprise,” DeJonge said.
According to DeJonge, the April 9 event is aimed at residents, landowners and policymakers in the southwestern part of the county. Scheduled speakers include Lydia Lopez of the River Raisin Watershed Council, DeJonge of the Washtenaw County Conservation District, Matthew Bertrand of Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation’s Natural Areas Preservation program, and Andrea Paine of the Huron River Watershed Council.
The conservation district says the series is designed to help residents connect with resources for assessing, managing and protecting land. Land use was also identified as one of the top natural resource and environmental concerns in the district’s 2021 county resource assessment.
