Sun Times News writer Heather Finch has been recognized with the “Excellence in Creative Expression” award from the Washtenaw Community College English and College Readiness Department.

Finch, who covers Milan schools and community news in Washtenaw County, was honored for her work in storytelling and writing. Her reporting has highlighted local voices and everyday experiences across the community.

Heather’s instructor, Katy Shay, states, “Heather is a thorough, precise, and thoughtful emerging writer and journalist. Heather’s work is brave, she is unafraid to cover stories that bring heat. At the same time she is incredibly balanced, approaching her work with a rational mind and excellent grasp on her resources.”

“Heather brings a level of resourcefulness and energy that elevates everything we do,” says Sun Times News Editor Doug Marrin. “She consistently produces strong, high-quality work, and her ability to connect with people, from community members to area leaders, gives her reporting real depth and breadth. She’s been a great addition to our team.”

The recognition is an accurate measurement and reflection of Heather’s growing impact as a journalist and her continued commitment to telling meaningful stories across the community.
