The Season Begins for Big Reds Track and Field

The Milan Varsity Girls and Boys Track and Field teams took on Flat Rock this past week and made a trip to Fowlerville for the Early Season Open.

Both the Boys and Girls teams came out on top over Flat Rock on April 7, during the home meet with the boys earning a winning score of 85-43 and the girls 70-55.

On the boys side of things, stand-out performances included Tanner Lambers, who won high jump, Braeden Lerette, who won both hurdle events , as well as the 4×200 relay with Charlie  Brown, Jacob Offerman , and Max Green, and he also won the long jump.

Cole Yates won shot put while Mason Martin won both the 1 mile and 2 mile, and Charlie Brown won the 100. 

Big Reds Coach Chad Lawver said it was a “Great first meet in the cold, I am very pleased with the first times of the season.”

On the girls’ side, the win against Flat Rock was the first Varsity win for Coach Noah Genson.

The Big Reds then headed northwest on April 10 for the Fowlerville Invite.

At the meet, the Milan Boys finished 7th place overall. Some standout performances include Braeden Lerette, who was 1st in the 300 hurdles and 3rd in 110 high hurdles, and freshman Mason Martin, who placed 2nd in the 2 mile.  

The Milan Girls placed 6th overall at the Fowlerville Invite.

Coach Genson said the “Weather was not great, cold and wet, with on and off showers all day.”

However, he said he was “proud of how we competed today and were able to see some encouraging things from our team.”

100 Hurdles- Kaily McDaniel 3rd 17.62

200 dash- Angelina Wilson 4th 28.84

300 Hurdles- Kaily McDaniel 5th 53.35, Savannah Manning 8th 56.69

1600 M Run- Amerie Wilson 4th 5:56.80

4×100- Jada Stines, Avery Mitchell, Tori Kimberly, Savannah Manning 5th 55.51

4×200- Jada Stines, Angelina Wilson, Madison Lancaster, Kaily McDaniel 5th 1.53.53

4×400- Kaily McDaniel, Angelina Wilson, Amerie Wilson, Madison Lancaster 5th 4:32.8

Discus- Mary-Kate Wayne 6th 86 feet 2 inches, Addison Ostrom 8th 81 feet 7 inches

Long Jump- Madison Lancaster 6th 14 Feet 7.5 inches

Pole Vault- Tori Kimberly 4th 7 feet 6 inches (New School Record)
