Chelsea Grad Part of Winning Big Ten Relay Team

Bringing home the gold, Will Barhite, a 2021 Chelsea High School graduate, earned a great victory at the recent Big Ten Indoor Championships.

Barhite was part of the University of Michigan’s distance medley relay team at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, which was held at the end of February in Indianapolis at the Fall Creek Pavilion.

The distance medley relay team was Brendan Herger, Will Barhite, Camden Law and Trent McFarland. They had a winning time of 9:38.72. Barhite is a senior at Michigan.

According to UM’s Men’s Track and Field, the relay team stayed in front for the first three legs of the race, keeping the lead position until Washington and Wisconsin pulled ahead with three laps to go. On the final lap, McFarland “surged ahead and retook the lead on the backstretch to finish just 0.13 seconds ahead of second-place Oregon.”

The Distance Medley Relay (DMR) in Michigan track and field is a four-person, 4,000-meter indoor relay event, consisting of 1200m, 400m, 800m, and 1600m legs.
