Chelsea Police Seek Information on Break-In at Solid Waste/WWRA Facility

Chelsea Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect vehicle connected to a breaking and entering incident earlier this week at the city’s Solid Waste and Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority (WWRA) transfer facility.

According to the Chelsea Police Department, the incident occurred on March 11, 2026, when the driver of a pickup truck reportedly broke into the Solid Waste/WWRA transfer facility. After gaining entry, the suspect or suspects entered a storage trailer and stole building materials, including copper and brass plumbing fixtures and lengths of sheathed wiring.

Police released surveillance images of the vehicle believed to be involved in the theft.

Investigators say the suspect vehicle appears to be a GM full-size, four-door pickup truck, possibly silver or light-colored. The truck is described as being in relatively good condition and equipped with factory step-up rails.

One distinctive feature noted by police is that the right front tire has a black rim, while the other three tires appear to be standard GM factory rims.

Chelsea Police are asking anyone who may recognize the vehicle or who has information about the incident to contact Officer T. Gilbreath at 734-475-9122 ext. 107 or by email at [email protected]. The case is listed as Chelsea PD Case No. 26-0991.

Authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward as the investigation continues.
