| INFORMATION: While at the station, the investigator received a fraud complaint by telephone. The complainant reported that on October 10, 2025, a check had been cashed and was later discovered to have been fraudulently altered to reflect a different payee. The complainant reported that he had contacted his financial institution and reported the fraudulent activity to them. The case remains open pending the return of a search warrant and additional follow-up. | ||

| INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, an officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Chelsea Police Department for a walk-in identity theft complaint. The complainant stated that he had received mail from a financial institution reporting that his name had been used to open a checking account in his name without his knowledge. The complainant stated that he had already contacted the financial institution and reported to their fraud department; however, he stated that they were not successful in getting additional information. At the time of the report, there was no available information on the identity of the suspect. The case was filed and turned over to the investigator’s office for additional follow-up. | ||
Incident #: 26-1114 Location: 700 block of Fieldstone Circle Date: March 18, 2026 Time: 5:04 pm INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Fieldstone Circle for the report of a fraud that had just occurred. The complainant reported that she had received an email from someone falsely purporting to be an online payment processing service and claiming that she needed to contact them at a phone number provided in the email. The complainant made contact with a representative by phone, and they told the complainant that there had been an overpayment for a cryptocurrency purchase. The complainant stated that she was unaware of this overpayment, but over an extended period of time being on the phone with the suspect and after completing a series of tasks that were requested by the suspect, the victim discovered that multiple accounts at her financial institution had their balances taken to $0 and the money was transferred to an external bank. At the time of the report, there was no suspect information available. The complainant was advised to contact their financial institution the following day. The complainant followed up with the investigating officer and reported that her financial institution had been able to put a stop on all the transactions in question, resulting in no financial loss for the complainant.
Incident #: 26-1143 Location: 14000 block of E. Old US 12 Date: March 20, 2026 Time: 2:40 am INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, officers were dispatched to the 14000 block of E. Old US 12 for the report of a burglary of a commercial business that was in progress. Officers arrived in the area and observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle provided by the caller, leaving the area. Officers pursued the vehicle and located it abandoned and unoccupied in the 17000 block of W. Old US 12. The Chelsea Police Department, along with the assistance of area law enforcement agencies searched the area and located two suspects, identified as a 39-year-old Detroit man and a 40-year-old Detroit man and both suspects were placed under arrest. Two additional suspects remain unidentified and at large. The case remains open pending further investigation.
Incident #: 26-1153 Location: 1500 block of S. Main Street Date: March 20, 2026 Time: 11:25 pm INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of S. Main Street for the report of an intoxicated subject in a vehicle who also reportedly had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. Upon the officer’s arrival, they located the vehicle in question, which was running in the parking lot. Officers approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver of the vehicle. Officers noted that a strong odor of alcohol was emitting from the subject’s breath, and several open containers of alcohol could be observed in the vehicle. Officers attempted to identify the subject, and he became uncooperative and resistant towards the officer’s inquiries. The officers determined that there was enough probable cause to place the suspect, identified as a 41-year-old Grass Lake man, under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was eventually transported to the Washtenaw County Jail. The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and the submission and review of a warrant by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
Incident #: 26-1173 Location: 1600 block of S. Main Street Date: March 22, 2026 Time: 10:12 pm INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, officers responded to the 1600 block of S. Main Street for the report of a vehicle that had been observed driving in a hazardous manner and had reportedly pulled into a parking lot. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the witness about what had taken place, and then made contact with the driver of the vehicle in question. The officer noted that the subject had visibly bloodshot eyes and there was an odor of alcohol. The officer requested the subject perform some standard field sobriety tests. The subject complied and at the conclusion of the tests, the officer determined that there was enough probable cause to place the suspect, identified as a 35-year-old Onsted man under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was processed and then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail. The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
