FALL COLOR RAMBLE: 2:00 – 3:30 p.m., Sunday, November 9. Celebrate the beauty of autumn on an easy-going 2-mile hike with Robert Ayotte through the colorful woods around the Eddy Discovery Center. This guided walk is perfect for nature lovers of all ages – from curious beginners to experienced enthusiasts. As we stroll along flat to gently rolling trails, we’ll take a closer look at trees and shrubs that define our fall landscape. You’ll learn:
-Why leaves change color and how to recognize common fall foliage
– What kinds of fruits, nuts, and berries are out this time of year
– How trees and shrubs prepare for winter dormancy
This will be a relaxed, family-friendly outing focused on enjoying the season while discovering the fascinating lives of woody plants in fall. Binoculars and/or hand lens are recommended for a closer look. Cost: $2/person or $5/family. Eddy Discovery Center, 17030 Bush Rd. in the Waterloo Recreation Area near Chelsea. Program limited to 16 participants. The building is closed so program will be entirely outdoors.
