One person is in custody and a second suspect is still being sought in connection with the 2025 armed robbery of the Dairy Queen at 6450 East M-36 in Hamburg Township, according to Hamburg Township Public Safety officials.
Police said the robbery happened Sept. 17, 2025, at about 9:30 p.m. when one suspect entered the business wearing a mask and gloves. The suspect displayed a handgun and held three employees at gunpoint while taking money and other personal items, police said.
During the robbery, police said two employees were punched. Both were taken to the hospital by Livingston County EMS.
Hamburg Township detectives Officer Kim Leeds and Sgt. Daniel Bromley led the investigation. According to police, the two worked with multiple state and federal law enforcement agencies over the next three months to gather evidence before submitting warrant requests to the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police said the prosecutor’s office authorized felony armed robbery charges Dec. 29, 2025, against two suspects, both Illinois residents.
In late January, one suspect was arrested in Illinois and held in the Cook County Jail while facing local charges and awaiting extradition, according to police. Officials said the suspect was extradited back to Michigan on March 20 and is now lodged in the Livingston County Jail on the felony armed robbery charge out of Hamburg Township.
The second suspect remains at large and is being sought by federal authorities, police said.
Hamburg Township officers were assisted in the investigation by Michigan State Police, the Livingston and Washtenaw Narcotics Enforcement Team, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service.
In a statement, Director of Public Safety Richard Duffany called the crime “exceedingly rare” in Hamburg Township and praised Leeds and Bromley for their work on the case.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Kim Leeds at 810-231-9391, ext. 462, or [email protected].
