Richard (Dick) Ernest Herderich, born on February 7, 1937, to the late Adam and Barbara (Meyer) Herderich, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith, who passed away in 1997 after 39 years of marriage. Dick is survived by his loving children, Mike (Kathy) Herderich, Mark (Kim) Herderich, and Dr. Sue (Fred) Strich; his seven cherished grandchildren, Kristin (Brian) Tweedy, Stephanie (Jeremy) Evans, Ryan (Heather) Herderich, Kara (Alex) Flores, Emily (Austin) Downey, Eric Hepker, and Austin Hepker; and his seven treasured great-grandchildren, Carter, Liam, Rylynn, Maizey, Kinsley, Emerson, and Grayson.
Dick also shared the past 25 years of his life with his devoted partner, Rosemary Quigley, and is additionally survived by her children, William (Apple) Quigley, Teri Quigley, Pat Quigley, and the late Paul Quigley; all of Rosemary’s brothers and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dick enjoyed his early years in Detroit at Mackenzie High School in the ROTC, and as a leading actor in school plays. He continued his acting while at Wayne State University, where he was also a member of the Wayne State Crew Team.
Dick dedicated his career to public service, ending a 27-year career with the Detroit Police Department as an Executive Lieutenant, followed by more than 10 years with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department. Outside of work, he found great joy in the outdoors, especially working outside on his property in Ortonville and the farm in Dexter. A devoted father, he was actively involved in his children’s lives camping, fishing, coaching baseball, and proudly served as a Boy Scout leader for many years. Dick will be remembered for his strong work ethic, commitment to service, and deep love for his family.
There will be a Memorial Gathering for Dick on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., at Keehn-Griffin Funeral Home, 706 W. Main Street, Brighton. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will follow at 3:00 p.m.
