Date of Notice: 3/16/2026
Incident Description
The Sylvan Township Water & Sewer Authority, Sylvan Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan is notifying the public of a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) that occurred within the municipal sanitary sewer system at 15636 Kilmer Road, Grass Lake, MI sewer pump station.
The overflow occurred on 3/15/2026 at 18:30 and was stopped on 3/15/2026 at approximately 19:10. The station had been running under generator power due to a power outage resulting from the high winds. The field crew was on site at the time. The discharge was ground surface only and local to the station. The estimated volume was under 4000 gallons based off the upstream pump flows.
The overflow was caused by control panel breakers tripping when the automatic transfer switch switched back to line power.
The incident has been reported to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) as required.
Additional system evaluation or maintenance will be conducted to prevent future occurrences.
