Richard “Dick” K. Ulrich, a man of service, craft, and unwavering devotion to his family, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, surrounded by those he loved.
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on November 6, 1938, Dick grew up in Dexter and remained a pillar of the community throughout his life. After graduating from Dexter High School in 1957, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Following his service, he dedicated his professional career to the trade of Tool and Die Maker, where his precision and hard work were hallmarks of his long tenure.
Dick was defined by his generous spirit and was always the first to offer a helping hand to a neighbor or friend. He was familiar and active at Lions Club International events and was deeply committed to youth mentorship. For many years, he served as Assistant Scout Master for Troop 477 of Dexter, guiding through the values of leadership and the outdoors.
An avid sports fan, Dick as a fixture at local high school games, but his greatest joy was being the #1 fan for his own family. He traveled across the country to cheer at the sporting events of his children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to show his support from the sidelines.
In his quieter moments, Dick was a gifted woodworker. His family will forever cherish the birdhouses, Kleenex boxes, and handmade toys he meticulously crafted for his children and grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Jo; his children Suzanne (Eddie) Robbins, Jeff (Ilene), and Betty (Tony) Queen; and a large, loving legacy of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his mother, father, and two sisters, and his grandson, Matthew Ulrich.
Please consider a memorial to “Scout Troop 477 Memorial Fund” Attention Scout Master Dave Kluck, 3975 West Pillar Rd., Whitmore Lake, MI 48189.
